Internal communications audit and strategy helped the Rainbow Trust effectively engage all its employees.

A recent internal communications report, Taking internal communications out of its comfort zone, found that many employers struggle to effectively engage front line staff. The Rainbow Trust, a charity that supports the families of children with terminal illness, was a case in point. A disparate workforce made it difficult to fully engage employees.

The challenge was to conduct a comprehensive audit that would equip the Rainbow Trust with the context and understanding to develop an internal communication strategy and tactical plan. The audit used existing channel information, an employee survey and focus groups to address three key areas:

  • What’s working well
  • How clearly messages have been communicated to date
  • Where improvements can be made in future

A comprehensive report and tailored recommendations empowered the Rainbow Trust to develop an overarching and insight-driven internal communications strategy and tactical plan, aligned to its business plan and values.
