Outspoken? Occasionally. But we prefer positively disruptive. We want to work with likeminded organisations and people.

Welcome to Shelley!

As the eagle-eyed of you may have seen, we recently appointed Shelley Facius as our new head of technology here at Ruder Finn UK. Now that she’s settled in, we wanted to get to know a bit more about her – over to you Shelley!

Life before Ruder Finn – tell us a bit about it.

Before joining I worked at WPP as an Interim Head of Communications in its only IT company, Coretech. Coretech was set up to transform the IT systems across WPP globally. I decided to take on a role focused on change and internal communications and stakeholder management as it was new for me. I’ve always liked a challenge.

Prior to that I’ve been 20+ years in external comms / PR in agency and in house, with the majority of that centred on tech and corporate comms. I’ve worked at H +K Strategies, Fleishman, and Firefly during the boom years and had my own business. I was also a PR Director at Oracle. I love international work and have done more of it than strictly UK.

Why did you decide to join Ruder Finn?

For me it was mainly down to chemistry and the opportunity to develop the tech practice. Culture is incredibly important to me and I have been a few places where the culture stifled free thought and creativity.

I’ve known of Ruder Finn for many years and the company has a good reputation in the UK and US with clients, but it’s also seen as a great place to work.

What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?

Snails, but I still love them. Alligator probably comes second…

What was the last book you read?

Yukio Mishima, Runaway Horses, it’s the second of a four-book series.

What excites you most about the tech industry?

The constant change and how it’s impossible to predict what’s coming next.

What motivates you most?

Challenge, variety and working with smart, fun and inspiring people. I’m also driven by delivering great results for clients or in new business, making good use of my network.

What cheers you up?

My husband is a fantastic mimic and always makes me laugh. I also love to make cocktails, especially the American classics like Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, etc
